March 30, 2017 - April 1, 2017
Event Navigation
Bielefeld University’s Centre for Interdisciplinary Research is hosting a conference to explore the concept of Responsible Research and Innovation in an interdisciplinary and international setting. The programme includes sessions led by NUCLEUS partners Martin Carrier (Bielefeld University), Anne Dijkstra (Twente University) and Alexander Gerber (Rhine-Waal University).
From the conference description:
“The goal of the conference is to explore the notion of “responsible research and innovation” (RRI) in an interdisciplinary and international setting. The concept of RRI has come to the fore in the past decades and can be viewed as a response to the growing public insight that science is a powerful instrument that can bring about valuable and damaging outcome. The wider research context of the proposed conference is a project on RRI within Horizon 2020 (Carrier/König) and a research cooperation with the “South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement” (SAASTA, Weingart). Three topical areas are supposed to be addressed. “Science for society” is intended to explore how to identify, choose, and implement socially beneficial research topics. “Science with society” is supposed to investigate frameworks of lay participation regarding the selection of research fields. “Science communication” is thought to study ways of establishing a dialogue between science and society.”
